Columbus New Mexico is drenched in history and culture. It sits on the border of Palomas, Mexico and welcomes tourists all year long for its rich history and proximity to the famous “Pink’s Store” which is accessible with a short walk across the border.
It’s a town that holds secrets to history like no other. Columbus became a world known name on March 9, 1916, when Mexican Revolutionary Pancho Villa attacked the sleeping village. It was the last time the United States was attacked by a foreign power with troops on the ground- a battle that affected an entire World War! Today you can still go back in time and see the houses, barracks, and even a full-sized replica of the plane used to hunt down Pancho Villa. While in Columbus, stop into the Tumbleweed Theater!
Join us yearly for the Cabalgata Internacional- a bi-nantional celebration where Mexican riders journey by horseback to the American border and are greeted in the name of friendship and unity for a 2-day festival.
There is history and culture to explore during your day in Columbus.
